Kala Chana Chaat

The low glycemic index of black chickpeas means your blood glucose levels will not spike as high after eating them. Black chana is high in fibre and digests slowly in the stomach, reducing food consumption. The consumption of black chana might therefore be beneficial for diabetics.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup Kala Chana (Black Chickpea)  boiled
  • ¼ cup Red Onion diced
  • ¼ cup Tomato diced
  • 1 Green chili  optional
  • ¼ cup Avocado chopped optional
  • 3 or 4 Mint leaves
  • 1 tsp Coriander leaves
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • ¼ tsp Black salt Kala namak
  • ¼ tsp Red chili powder
  • 1 tsp Chaat masala
  • ½ tsp Amchur (dry mango powder)
  • To taste salt

Instructions
 

  • Add the boiled black chickpeas to a bowl. Add green chili, onions, tomatoes and spices to it. Stir well. 
  • Add avocado, mint leaves, coriander leaves and lemon juice. Stir well. 
  • Taste and adjust salt as needed. 

Notes

How to boil black chickpeas: Wash and soak ½ cup black chickpeas in water overnight. Discard the water. Pressure cook with fresh 1.5 cups of water in instant pot for 30 mins or on stovetop pressure cooker for 2 whistles on high and 30 mins on low heat. Let the pressure release naturally. Drain the water and use the black chickpeas in this recipe.
